Commercial Solar

Commercial Solar Installation in San Diego

From small businesses looking to cut overhead to new construction projects requiring Title 24 compliance, Solion Energy provides licensed commercial solar installation throughout San Diego County. We’re a lean, local operation – which means straightforward scoping, fair pricing, and a team that shows up and delivers.

Commercial Solar for
Small & Mid-Size Businesses

Running a business in San Diego means dealing with some of the highest commercial utility rates in the country. SDG&E’s demand charges and time-of-use pricing can make energy costs one of your largest fixed expenses – and one of the few you can actually do something about.

Commercial solar lets you generate your own electricity, reduce your dependence on the grid, and lock in predictable energy costs for the life of the system. For most San Diego businesses, the math is straightforward: lower monthly overhead, a 30% federal tax credit on installation costs, and accelerated depreciation under MACRS that lets you write down the asset quickly.

What kinds of businesses do we work with?

Solion works with small and mid-size commercial properties across San Diego County, including:

  • Retail and restaurant owners
  • Warehouses and light industrial buildings
  • Multi-tenant commercial properties
  • HOA common areas and parking structures
  • Medical and professional offices
  • Agricultural and rural commercial properties
We’re not set up for utility-scale projects – and we’ll tell you that upfront. Our focus is on commercial installs where hands-on execution and honest scoping matter most. If your project is a good fit, you’ll get an experienced team, not a subcontractor.

What’s included in a commercial solar install?

Every commercial project is scoped individually, but a full installation typically covers:

  • Site assessment and energy consumption analysis
  • Custom system design optimized for your roof, usage, and utility rate structure
  • Full permitting with the City or County of San Diego
  • Professional installation by our licensed C-10 electrical team
  • Utility interconnection and net metering enrollment
  • System commissioning and production monitoring setup

General Contractor Partnerships

If you’re a general contractor working on commercial or residential projects in San Diego, a reliable solar subcontractor isn’t easy to find. Missed timelines, permit delays, and poor coordination with the electrical rough-in can turn a straightforward solar scope into a project headache.

Solion works directly with general contractors as a trusted solar partner – on-schedule, properly licensed, and easy to work with. We understand how our scope fits into a larger construction timeline, and we communicate clearly so your project doesn’t stall waiting on us.

What we bring to GC partnerships:

  • Licensed C-10 electrical contractor — fully insured, bonded, and compliant
  • Experienced with coordinating solar rough-in during framing and MEP phases
  • Title 24 compliance on new construction and ADU projects (see below)
  • Clean, organized installs that don’t create punch list issues
  • Clear scoping and documentation for your project file
  • Direct point of contact – no layers of project management between you and our field team

Trade coordination is part of what we do.

One area where solar subcontractors often create problems for GCs is at the intersection of the solar and roofing scopes. Sequencing matters: when solar installation and roofing work aren’t properly coordinated, you end up with scheduling conflicts, duplicate work, and — more importantly — warranty exposure for both trades.

We’ve worked alongside roofing contractors on enough San Diego projects to understand where those friction points are and how to avoid them. We stage our work around the roofer’s timeline, communicate directly with the roofing crew on sequencing, and make sure our penetrations and flashing are done in a way that doesn’t void the roofing warranty — so our installation doesn’t create callbacks for either trade. When both scopes are coordinated from the start, everyone hits their deadlines and the homeowner or property owner doesn’t end up in the middle of a dispute about who’s responsible for what.

We work on a repeat basis with several San Diego general contractors and welcome new relationships. If you have an upcoming project and want to discuss scope, give us a call – we’ll tell you quickly whether it’s a fit.

Title 24 & ADU Solar Compliance

California’s Title 24 building energy code requires solar on most new residential construction and accessory dwelling units (ADUs). For general contractors and developers, this isn’t optional – and a non-compliant install can delay your Certificate of Occupancy.

Solion handles Title 24 solar compliance installs for new construction and ADU projects throughout San Diego County. We know the code, we know the permitting process, and we’re used to working on a builder’s timeline.

What is Title 24 solar compliance?

Title 24, Part 6 of the California Building Code establishes minimum energy efficiency standards for new construction. Under the current standards, virtually all new single-family homes and low-rise multifamily buildings in California must include a solar PV system. ADUs added to existing properties fall under similar requirements depending on scope and square footage.

Who typically needs Title 24 solar?

  • New single-family home construction
  • Accessory dwelling units (ADUs) above a certain size threshold
  • Room additions that trigger a whole-home energy review
  • Low-rise multifamily new construction

If you’re not sure whether your project requires Title 24 solar compliance, contact us – we’ll give you a straight answer based on your project type and scope.

What Solion provides for Title 24 projects:

  • Compliant system sizing based on California Energy Commission (CEC) requirements
  • Title 24 documentation and CF1R/CF2R compliance forms
  • Coordination with your architect or energy consultant as needed
  • Permit filing and inspection scheduling with the AHJ
  • Clean installs that don’t hold up your CO

Jake did a fantastic job recently installing 22 panels on my home in Point Loma. He was very knowledgeable all the way through the process. He upheld high standards while doing the installation and everything turned out great!
